The Entomology Unit is one third of the Plant Protection Department. This unit focuses on the management and control of agricultural pests on the island as well as the prevention of pests entering Barbados through commercial trade and passengers.

The Home Agricultural Station is the home of the Tissue Culture Laboratory which focuses on the production of disease-free planting materials and the creation of a bank of genetic material used to replace crops destroyed by a major event.

The Vet Service Department is responsible for (1) the protection of local animals by preventing the entry of exotic animal diseases during trade (2) the safety of foods of animal origin and (3) the consistent availability of animal protein through livestock disease prevention and reproductive efficiency.
